Music and writing

It’s weird how music can trigger memories and moods, and how those can in turn trigger the desire to write certain things. I just got to work and caught the tail edge of Natalie Merchant’s “Carnival” on JackFM, which triggered a flood of memories from 1995, when I listened to Tigerlily over and over (this [...]

Got a quarter?

Josh came up with an interesting idea the other day. Instead of monthly we should publish quarterly. Primarily, this is to make this more profitable, since we won’t lose as much in Fictionwise conversion fees. While I’m glad to have Fictionwise as a distribution partner, between their cut of the sale price and ebook conversion [...]

I couldn’t put it down…

I have two weaknesses: snappy dialogue and hot brunettes.
Over the weekend, my first days off after 12 days of work, I started watching the sixth season of Gilmore Girls on DVD, and before I knew it I found myself Sunday night having watched all 22 episodes in a row and the seventh season opener on [...]

w00t! UC #5 is on the front page at Fictionwise!

Always nice to get some front page face time. If you haven’t picked it up yet, Unification Chronicles #5 is available for sale. Just because I can’t resist quoting it (it’s one of my favorite scenes so far), here’s the excerpt:
Gosnell leaned forward, his jowly flesh lapping over his collar. “Major Killian, you didn’t get along [...]

What, me burnout?

Josh is concerned about me. After last week’s marathon series of articles on WOYP while dealing with all the freaking problems at work, he’s afraid that I’m going to flame out and drop fiction for a while.
Part of me wants to, I’d be lying to say otherwise. But more than that, I’m strangely energized. I [...]

Sleepytime…

Frickin’ Mondays… I’m just about to fall asleep at my desk despite just about every server going TU this morning after swapping out the building backup generator. Looks like I picked the wrong week to quit smoking banana peels…
Unification Chronicles #4, Exiting Eden, is available for sale on Fictionwise this morning, so go get it [...]

Back in the saddle, continued…

I have no idea what day it is, but I just got done with a minor polish of UC #5, Inquisition, and I can’t wait to hear what you folks think of it. Absolutely zero combat in this issue, unlike the near constant fight of the last two, but I still think it’s the most [...]

Like the mindless homing pigeon, I return!

Okay, campers, Unification Chronicles #4 has been uploaded to Fictionwise and should appear for sale Monday morning.
A few changes to look for in this issue… While it’s still titled internally as Volume 01.04, I’m sticking to regular old comix-style issue numbers for Fictionwise, so this issue will be listed as:
Exiting Eden [Unifiction Chronicles #4]

Also, note [...]

Back in the saddle: Day 3

There is no day 3. I’ll read issues 3 and 4 tomorrow, promise.
It’s not my fault, I got caught up in webcomics crack, Questionable Content.
(For the record, while I’ve spent my time as Marten, the character I relate to the most is Pintsize. Ask Josh about my talent for mischief.)

Back in the saddle: Day 2

How come I didn’t notice this stuff before?
After Jack and his four-Marine fireteam deployed to the surface of the planet that would be later named New Eden, we see the following. Jack is chest deep in a river sampling the water and Robyn is on the bank monitoring the comms. She tells Jack that Rodas, [...]
