Form factor cuts both ways. Now that I've been using a capacitive screen on the iPhone for a while, I'm keenly aware that a smaller screen wouldn't work as well. Your fingertips only get so small, and I'm worried that the 3.2" screen on the Pre might be the bottom limit of fingertip usability (the iPhone's screen is 3.5", the same size and resolution as the old Palm TX). You can go smaller, 2.5 and 2.8 inches, on Windows Mobile devices because they're resistive screens designed for stylus use.

Here in Australia, I dare say the Pre will end up being cheaper unlocked than the upcoming iPhone.

What you are also forgetting is form-factor. Some people want the pre's form factor. I'm not so sure myself, but we'll see once I get to play with it.

Size is another biggie. My Omnia is as big as I'll go I think: I find the screen on the iPhone... well, too _large_ in hand almost. Touch HD is the same. The Pre and the Diamond2 fit what I like a little better, but I'll grant you that it's easy enough to get used to the size.

The other BIG thing: The Pre can run old Palm software. This is a big thing for the generation of people still running old Treo's, for the genereation of teens who are still running Centros.

Regardless, I think it'll be interesting to see what happens.
