Treo 800w first impressions

I picked up a Treo 800w over the weekend and man, I have to give Palm their props. This is a wonderful refinement of the venerable Treo form factor. It’s comfortable, light and elegant.

But what really make the difference is software, Palm’s “special sauce”. The Treo 800 is fast. Despite a lower clock speed than most competing devices (I’m talking to you, HTC), it seems almost telepathic, anticipating what I’m going to do before I do it. All the buttons and controls are right where they should be. More importantly though Palm has managed to add so many small touches to the device that greatly enhance the speed and efficiency of Windows Mobile without replacing it outright (as the HTC Diamond attempts to do with TouchFLO 3D). I’ll try to get to those in a more detailed review.

In short, don’t let the conservative looks fool you. The Treo 800w is the elite Windows Mobile smartphone right now for people looking to get stuff done.
