Rick commented yesterday that while I’m taking as long to write BHH/UC as Tolkien took to write LotR, Tolkien had considerably more time and less stress than I do. Not to take advantage of such excuses, but I’ve had almost no time to do anything writerly today. I ran late getting out of the house so much that I had to eschew my traditional pre-shift burrito (sob!) and it’s crazy busy at work for a Friday. Hope to get actual thinking done on Revelation this weekend (Ive come to learn that for writers momentum is a very real, tangible thing) but today is one of those days when life just intervenes.

Egad, a burritoless Jeff. A truely sad thing. BTW, while I know that you are sorta of backing off writing on your PDA, I wonder if the fact that you are writing at home, with all the distractions contained within could be a clog to productivity. Jerry Pournelle for example writes in what he calls “The Monk’s Cell” which has a computer with no connection to the net, no games and no phone. This is where he goes to write. Ruthless discipline does not always seen to come easily to you and writing at Chipole (sp?) might cut down od distractions some.
Actually, I’ve been writing almost exclusively on my phone for the past few weeks, mostly because the only time I’m home is when I’m unconscious (though not necessarily the inverse). Today’s blog entry was written on my phone in Mobile PostIt, a WM WordPress editor, while “on break.”
I don’t know how this is going to work when I get done with the planning stage and actually start composition, but for now I’m better off writing at Chipotle than at home, for various reasons. Fortunately, I’ve spent the last ten years building up an immunity to ioca– er, learning how to write on the run.
BTW, I dodged a Colorado summer monsoon to snag a burrito at “lunch”. A guac infusion and all is right with the world…
