The joys of being a bipolar writer

So I went to my writer’s critique group last night, a merry little band we call the “Dead Asimov’s Society” since we’re mostly SF writers. As we sat around discussing In Shining Armor Chapter One, I brought up many of the topics that I’ve been blogging about here for the past week. Okay, I brought up all of the topics that I’ve been blogging about here for the past week. My friend Lynn started smirking.

“What?” I asked.

“Nothing,” she said. “It’s just that it’s feast or famine with you, Jeff.”

At that point my friend Ken feigned incredible weariness. “Jeff, don’t take this the wrong way,” he said, “but could you go back to being depressed?”

Okay, I know it was a joke, but that’s life for the serotonin-imbalanced. When I’m on, I’m on. There’s just no stopping the flow of words and ideas once it gets started. I’m not sure the folks in my writer’s group want to hear it (a big reason why I’m putting this stuff out on the blog for anyone who is interested), but I’m really, really enjoying being back to writing.

And I’ll stay that way until, well, until the pendulum swings the other way.

sigh…
