PPCGeeks.com - Apache WM5 AKU 3.5 Unifed ROM Kitchen 1.0.0 Release!

If you’ve got an HTC Apache (usually known as the PPC-6700 or XV6700), here’s the base for making your own ROM.

A couple of months ago we set out to take the excellent AKU 3.3 kitchen that Helmi_C graciously created for us and fix some of the existing bugs and omissions while bringing it up to AKU 3.5 level. Our intent was to create a “base” ROM kitchen that as closely resembled a stock Apache ROM as possible, while still incorporating the newest OS files available to us. We feel we have succeeded in this effort given all the barriers we had to work around. What is being released here is the culmination of hundreds of hours time time put in by the developers and other members of the team. It is not perfect by any means, but as we all know even the stock ROMs were far from perfect. We think that you will find this ROM kitchen to be an improvement over the previous revisions you may have used–we certainly think that it is.

If you’ve never used a “kitchen” before, it’s really pretty easy. Unrar the download at the link above into a folder. You’ll see several subfolders, but the only one you really need to worry about is called OEM. Inside are several more folders, each being a module added to the OS before “cooking” it into a ROM.

Several you can remove to make room for other stuff. For example, I don’t use voice dialing so I removed that folder (CyberonVDD) from the OEM folder. Now when I build my ROM, the voice dial feature won’t be in it. Instead, you can download OEM modules for stuff you do want from here. Just download the folders and copy them (after unarchiving them, if necessary) to the OEM folder.

Once you’ve got your OEMs situated the way you want them (and if you don’t know what something is, don’t delete it), go back to the parent folder to OEM and you’ll see a file called “builder.cmd”. Run that and follow the directions. It will walk you through building the ROM and flashing it to your Apache.

That’s really it. If you can drag and drop folders and then run a batch file, you can build your own Apache ROM! Bon chance!

(And it should go without saying that if you have any other kind of phone, don’t try this ROM; it won’t work.)
