We now don’t return you…

I haven’t given up on my current article series, Going Wireless. I’m still trying to find a really good way to sync documents wirelessly between multiple XP boxes and Windows Mobile. I’ve got a lot of solutions that don’t quite do what I want, but no “Eureka!” moment yet.

I’m still a Palm T5 user, so this is not entirely relevant if you are attemping to go completely wireless…..
My Eureka moment came with the availability of affordable SD cards (the max. size for a T5 is 2GB) I have freed all of my documets to this mobile format. Wherever I work (home, train, office) I’m working on files on my SD card. Works well with a Getting Things Dona approach - Simple, Single place for everything that I’m working on.

I’ve thought about that, and it would be more transparent than what I’m doing now. However, if you lose your SD card or it gets corrupted, you’re hosed. The email attachment idea gives you full versioned backups.

Jeff, It’s true you are screwed if the SD is lost of corrupted. Although I have never lost a hard drive, I have found that SD cards are more less prone to corruption than most Hard Drives I have owned. In any case, there is no excuse for a good backup. I’m using Microsoft’s SyncToy. {I’m sure that there may be better options out there, bit I’m attracted to the price (free).} SyncToy allows me to sync data from my card to folders on my desktop computer. Especially handy withe the Drive mode on the T5 (Why did Palm discontinue that anyway????)

I used to use SyncToy a lot, but I have to say I really like not having to remember to use it.

Jeff, I really don’t want beat this horse much longer… but this solution works for me when I user Windows Scheduled tasks and start SyncToy automatically. Here is the syntax: ["C:\Program Files\Microsoft\SyncToy\SyncToy.exe" -R] This will run all of my folder pairs - there are ways to specify only one if you wish…

I appreciate the trust of your columns on this topic. I think that competely wireless is the way to go here, and an essential part of the utility of a PDA. I’ll let you know if I can make this work wirelessly when I get a Wi-Fi Card for my T5…
